Pottery/Ceramics/Sculpture – Which do you suggest?

And why.

That would be most helpful (in any way) towards my Graphic Design degree? I really want to take one of these as an elective as I would love to also learn and experience what these are, but just not sure which one? Please also describe all 3, and which you’d choose.

Well- they are all very similar as they are 3-d arts, but here’s where they differ:

Ceramics- usually figurines made from pouring clay into a mold and painting it after it’s first firing, though it can go more into actually sculpting with clay depending on what the curriculum for the class is like.
Pottery- usually cups, pots, bowls, etc. (things thrown on a wheel)
Sculpture- uses all different types of materials with clay and marble and wire being the most famous types of material to use, but pretty much any type of material, including junk (things you would throw away), can be used in sculpture.

For a Graphic Design degree, I think Sculpture would be your best bet as it will help train your eye to seeing various objects around you as elements of design more so than ceramics and pottery would. But you should go and talk with the art professors at your college and see what they would suggest as well! They’d have much more insight as to what is offered with each class you are looking at.
