paining “Moroccan pottery”?

Well, im a very Creative person, mainly i paint on canvas. Recently i painted on glass (decorated a lamp)and id like to buy some pottery to paint on. i own several moroccan Ceramic pieces, but wanted to know if they use special paint. do they have to bake pottery in the oven after painting it by hand???or do they just paint and varnish?…
please give me some insight!

One thing I learned is that unbaked pottery (say, from Mexico) will shed it’s outside paint very quickly. If the inside of the pot had been glazed, this wouldn’t have happened. However, these were pots I planted flowers in directly so there was soil and frequent watering involved.

I’d suggest if you try to paint on glazed items, read the labels and see what they say; I do know there is paint available at craft stores that allows you to paint on glazed surfaces – however, I’ve never used it and don’t know how durable it might be.
